Band
This is one of the most successful extension programs offered at Northbridge School. It is open to children in Years 3 - 6. The program comprises 2 bands catering for different levels of experience and musical competence. Both bands train twice a week, before school and during lunchbreak.
Training Band
- For children with little or no band experience
- Ideally students have been taking individual music lessons for a few months before joining the band.
- Usually for children commencing year 3
Concert Band
- For those graduating from the Training Band (usually after 12 months) or those able to play a more demanding repertoire. Musical interest and proficiency are more relevant than age
Both Bands have competed in recent Sydney band festivals receiving gold and silver awards and judged as "highly commended".
The Bands are self funding and are run by a Parent committee, so parental involvement is vital.
Why join?
- Stimulating your child's interest in music helps your child mentally, socially and physically.
- It provides a greater exposure to, and enjoyment and appreciation of music.
- Regular practice establishes a routine of discipline.
- Public performances increase self-confidence.
- Making music in a group is fun!!
The NPS Bands give your child the chance to have fun making music with others rather than in isolation, and of playing different music meant to be played as part of an ensemble. Ensemble playing provides a different discipline to that of playing solo.
